I hope you had a joyous Christmas and New Year’s celebration and enjoyed spending time with family and loved ones.
The 2017 General Assembly Session is less than two weeks away as we are set to convene in Richmond on January 11th.
This year’s session will be a “short” session consisting of only forty-five days; however, that does not mean our workload is any less. In fact, we have the same amount of work to get done for our great Commonwealth this year but fifteen fewer days to complete it versus a “long” session.
My staff and I have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming legislative session and the big move to Richmond. It is my plan to put forth a significant amount of bills this session, a majority of which have come from the people of the 59th District.
As in years past, I will be sending out a weekly update to brief you on important legislation and happenings that are circulating within the Capitol and General Assembly Building along with information and statuses of my own legislation.
It is my hope that you will keep me informed of your thoughts and opinions on legislation that is brought before the General Assembly. Your communication helps me better represent you and our community as a whole.
Like many of the house districts within the Commonwealth, the 59th District is not located within close proximity to Richmond. I have an open door policy at my office in the General Assembly Building in Richmond. Please feel free to call my session legislative aide, Cindy Blanks-Shearin, and schedule a visit to my office and the rest of the Capitol during the 2017 General Assembly Session. Not only will you be able to witness Virginia’s legislative process firsthand, but you can also take a step back into time and enjoy the architecture and relics within Mr. Jefferson’s Capitol!
My district office in Rustburg will also be of service, as my full time legislative aide, Jenna Fulmer, will be in the office to help take up any issues you may have. She can be reached at [email protected] or (434)821-5929.
I look forward to hearing from you in the next few weeks, and I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be your voice in the House of Delegates. If I can be of any assistance to you or your family in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact my Richmond office at [email protected] or (804) 698-1059.
