In the last two weeks I have spent a good amount of time travelling the district, meeting with constituents and businesses in the area. I had the pleasure to attend the grand opening for Vahseer Meadworks in Altavista on April 28th. I was joined by Mrs. Sandra Adams, Commissioner of Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in welcoming such a unique business to the area. I commend the Town of Altavista and Altavista on Track for all their hard work in helping Mr. Jerome Snyder along the way.
I was also able to travel to Appomattox for the grand opening of Appomattox Inn and Suites. The Appomattox community has been in dire need of new lodging for visitors and I am very impressed at what Appomattox Inn and Suites has to offer. I really look forward to seeing this business thrive this year.
This week is known as the start of National Nurses Week, beginning Friday May 6th. Although there are not any hospitals that reside in the 59th district, Lynchburg General Hospital, Southside Community Hospital and Virginia Baptist Hospital employ a large number of the constituents in my area. We honor nurses this week to help raise awareness of the important role nurses play in our society.
I also had the chance to visit with the Blue Ridge Re-Entry Council and briefly attend their May meeting. Blue Ridge Reentry serves the City of Lynchburg, Town of Altavista and Campbell, Appomattox, Amherst and Nelson Counties. This council helps identify community assets and service gaps and identify available resources and coordinate services for individuals returning to society. I am looking forward to attending forthcoming meetings and working with the council in the future.
I will continue to travel the district and visit business and meet with constituents this spring and summer.
