On Monday, August 17th, a special session was held in an attempt to work on redistricting. Unfortunately, it turned into a battle over the controversial appointment of the Supreme Court Justice seat with the way the courts have been used to interpret the laws as of late. I wish I could announce that we have secured a good judge for that seat. It is sad that a State Senator would let his personal vendettas get in the way of doing the state’s business. Little work on redistricting ended up being done meaning the September 1st deadline set in place will not be met. Virginia’s redistricting plan is now in the hands of the United States Courts. No other special sessions are planned and this matter will be addressed again when session convenes in January.

I knew special session would be fruitless so I opted to stay in my district and continue to work with my newly appointed legislative aide. Jenna Fulmer, who has served as my personal assistant for the past 7 years, has now transitioned into the role of my legislative assistant. I am very excited to have Jenna in this position. She is a native of Appomattox and her husband, Jason and daughters Carolina and Chapel now live in Campbell County. She is very competent and thorough with her work and will be a huge asset to the citizens of the 59th District. Please feel free to call the district office and welcome her.

As of this week, all of the schools in the 59th District have opened their doors and began the 2015-2016 school year. During this time, I ask that you be aware of the school buses and heightened traffic in the mornings and afternoons around the district as our youth begin another great school year.

If you have any concerns, questions, comments or issues that I or my Aide, Jenna, can help you with, please contact us at (434)821-5929 or email at [email protected].
